Charcoal-based toothpaste is a "marketing gimmick" that may actually harm your dental health. A report from the 'British Dental Journal" revealed that most toothpaste that at charcoal-based doesn't contain any fluoride to protect teeth. Many also often claim to be "anti-bacterial" and "anti-fungal" but this isn't true. They also are more abrasive than traditional toothpaste and may wear down your tooth enamel.

"Charcoal-based toothpastes offer no silver bullets for anyone seeking a perfect smile, and come with real risks attached," the British Dental Association told the BBC.

So next time you're looking to hop on the latest trend, make sure to do your research first. It might not be as healthy as you'd think.
