Many people who drink milk often choose skim milk as it’s often seen as the healthier option of all the dairy milks. However, when it comes to your skin, it’s actually even worse than whole milk?
Skim milk is the worst skin irritant among dairy due to the whey protein, hormones, and sugars in it. It even has more sugar than whole milk.
“The increased sugars lead to a higher glycemic index. Food with this property are known for flaring acne,” says dermatologist Avnee Shah.
“Getting rid of foods like milk, cheese and ice cream is a great way to give your skin a boost. Cutting dairy improves skin texture, skin tone, and acne,” says dermatologist Sarika Snell.
If you’re having trouble with your skin, it’s a good idea to try and omit dairy from your diet. However, don’t expect an overnight fix. You’ll need to give it some time before you will see any results.
“It takes approximately two to three weeks to see improvement in your skin once you remove dairy from your diet and allow your body to detox from it,” says Snell.
It may seem impossible to quit dairy completely. However, if you’re concerned about your skin, it can be a lot easier than you think. There are tons of vegan options to try during your dairy detox journey. If it seems overwhelming at first, try substituting one thing at a time. Change from dairy milk to almond or soy milk, or even try vegan cheese instead of regular on your next meal.
