CVS Recalls Eye Drops And Ointments That Might Not Be Sterile

CVS Pharmacy has announced the recall of various CVS Health-branded products that were produced by Altaire Pharmaceueticals Inc. The recall follows a similar recall issued by Walgreens and Walmart branded products.The Food and Drug Administration's website listed 30 products, including eye drops and ointments, that have been recalled because of sterilization concerns.

The recall is being listed as a "precautionary measure," and notes that "Altaire has received no reports of adverse events, nor has Altaire obtained any out of specifications results including sterility testing, for the products."

The FDA notes that the "Administration of a non-sterile product intended to be sterile may result in serious and potentially life-threatening infections or death."
